Purpose & Objectives:

Members of a Staff Assessment Visit (SAV) team need to have an understanding of the dangers and implications of improperly stored and inadequately managed stockpiles of SALW. This will ensure the personal safety of the team members and goes along with improving the effectiveness of the SAV. The individuals in a SAV team should have the relevant expertise in the field of technical and administrative security of SALW stockpiling. They should be able to work with national governments and relevant organizations to ensure a comprehensive assessment of a weapons storage site before providing recommendations for actions to be taken to improve the local safety and security situation.

Methodology:

The course content will be taught in logically consecutive order, with the aid of modern IT equipment. Theoretical lectures will be deepened by practical exercises and an excursion. The Staff Assessment Visit exercise will be the apogee of the training, enabling the students to become familiar with the procedures and execution of SAV.

Participants:

Military personnel or civilians of verification units/agencies of MSAG nations, who will be tasked to conduct SAV at weapons storage sites and/or to participate in executing PSSM seminars, conducted by the MSAG.
